This unique piece is not how it first appears.

It started as a background of yellows, oranges and reds over the entire surface. The texture - it appeared as "coral" to me. Then I saw what appeared to be the face of a sea turtle. Rather than painting a turtle, or the fish, etc, each form "appeared" I painted the negative space around it - the greens and blues. After adding shadows and hi-lite, their forms took shape. This painting continued to call me into the depths - into the distance beyond what was clear. Before long it was teaming with life as the all the sea creatures swam around in their amazing surroundings.
